They are two of the hottest singers in the music industry at the moment, with countless awards to their name.

And now Rihanna and Taylor Swift will be going head to head at this year's MTV EMA awards, as they are both nominated for the Best Female and Best Pop gongs.

The pair will battle it out at the 19th annual awards ceremony, which will be broadcasted live on MTV channels around the world, on Sunday 11th November from Frankfurt’s historic Festhalle arena.

As well as Best Female and Best Pop, Rihanna is also nominated for Best Look and Best Fans, in addition to Best Song and Best Video for hit track We Found Love, while Taylor is also up for Best Look, Best Live and Best World Stage.

In the Best Female category, the duo face strong competition from Katy Perry, Pink and new American Idol judge Nicki Minaj, while they will have to beat Justin Bieber, No Doubt and Katy Perry in the Best Pop section.

Two-time EMA host Katy also received nods for Biggest Fans and Best Video for her track Wide Awake, while Bieber got four nominations including Best Male and Best World Stage.

Other notable nominees include Lady Gaga, Lana Del Rey and Cary Rae Jepsen, who received three nods each, as Green Day, Rita Ora and Pitbull are up for two each. 

One Direction led the way for the UK acts nominated for the event, receiving nods for Biggest Fans, Best UK & Ireland Act and Best New.

Jessie J, Conor Maynard, Rita Ora and Ed Sheeran also received nominations for Best UK & Ireland Act, while former X Factor contestant Rebecca Ferguson earned herself a nod for Best Push.
